Back Pain in general
Description
Pain is an unpleasant sensory perception. It occurs when the mechanical, physical, or chemical stimulus exceeds the so-called pain threshold. It points to the site of injury or overload of the body. Pain is an impulse when we perceive an ailment. An important criterion for assessing pain is the duration of pain. Depending on the duration of pain we distinguish acute and chronic pain. Pain always represents a heavy burden so the goal of treatment is to relieve pain.
Acute pain takes a limited time (hours to days) and quickly disappears after removal of the trigger damage. It has a clear warning and protective function. It is clearly localized and treatable.
Chronic pain is continuous (e.g. back pain or tumor pain) and lasts continuously for 3 to 6 months. Chronic pain limits physical and mental well-being.
