Jet Lag
Ailment overview
Description
Jet lag is a complication caused by disruption of the biorhythm after longer air travels. It occurs due to the rapid overcoming of several time zones and can take several days until a person gets used to a new time zone. In addition to insomnia, it can also be accompanied by nausea, irritability, disorientation, or a change in blood pressure.
Our body is set to a certain state of balance, works on a certain 24-hour cycle, the so-called circadian rhythm that helps and determines the body when to fall asleep and when to wake up. The world is divided into 24 different time zones and our biorhythm is disturbed after the overflight of these zones. The speed at which our body can adapt to changing time zones is determined by several factors such as age or physical condition.
