Gum Abscess
Ailment overview
Description
Abscess of gums and jaws – the appearance of infection in this case does not affect the tooth itself and occurs only in the gums. The main source of the appearance of an abscess is gingivitis or periodontitis. Swelling and bleeding of the gums is observed in the initial phase characterized by hypersensitivity of the teeth and the absence of pain. If the inflammatory process is ignored, the disease progresses, periodontal sachets are formed, in which food residues, plaque and stone accumulate. These deposits provoke an increase in the activity of negative and anaerobic bacteria, the gums begin to swell. When you press down on the site of infection, you can feel pain or pressure. After a while, a white ball appears inside in which there is pus. Symptoms such as colds, general fatigue, and chills may occur. Pus on the gum appears above the tooth or between the tooth and gum, depending on the site of infection. The following characteristics can be recognized for further abscess formation:
• bad taste and bad breath
• speech disorder
• discomfort when chewing and swallowing
• blue gum enamel.
Later symptoms may include swelling in the face, swelling of the lymph nodes in the neck or jaw, and fever. In the final stage, a rupture may occur in the abscess, in which an unpleasantly smelly liquid is excreted in the mouth. If the abscess is not treated, it can spread to other areas of the head and neck.
